A few days ago, Hefei Supercomputer Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences had received special assignment, acclaiming that the construction project for supercomputer gridding branch center of Chinese Academy of Sciences starts. As infrastructure of supercomputer environment for Chinese Academy of Sciences, the cluster with high performance is contracted to build by Inspur. It adopts latest Nehalem platform, taking the lead in performance, energy saving and intelligence. It is known that the center will complete the installation and testing by the end of September, 2010, then put into operation.
As a part of the construction project of distributed high-performance supercomputer environment for Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei Institute of Physical Science will join Chinese Academy of Sciences Supercomputer Chief Center, other branch centers and computing centers to form three-level gridding environment with total computing capability up to 200 trillion per second, offering high-level computing service for scientific research projects. Meanwhile, it is also important infrastructure for Chinese National Grid.
Zeng Zhi, chief for the project of supercomputing Hefei branch center of Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduces that the computing platform they built will undertake state-of-the-art research in computational physics, including nuclear fusion, atmospheric optics and intelligent robot sensor, and research and computing mission for experimental equipments for four science projects – HT-7, EAST, ITER and strong magnetic field. It will serve as a powerful weapon to promote national 863 plan and other great scientific research subjects.
It is introduced that the computing platform for Hefei branch center project adopts Inspur TS10000 high-performance cluster, with NX7140N blade based on Nehalem platform as computing node, whose aggregation computing capacity reaches 12 trillion per second, total storage capacity up to 24.2 TB. It is a cluster boasting of largest computing capacity in computational physics at home.
Meanwhile, Inspur Tiansuo TS10000 high-performance cluster system takes the leader in many aspects: it adopts most energy-saving blade NX7140N as computing node; it achieves wide application of SSD solid state hard disk in domestic high-performance computing field. The VASP test data shows that its speedup reaches 68.2% growth; it takes 50% performance predominance in Vien2k algorithmic example test. Zeng Zhi introduces that the whole construction program has been approved by Information Work Leading Team and Supercomputer Chief Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences. After completion, Hefei Supercomputer Center, as an important node for Chinese Academy of Sciences supercomputer environment, will further speed up research progress for state-of-the-art subjects of Chinese Academy of Sciences, but also will considerably improve high-performance computing application level for Jiangsu province and surrounded areas.
