According to statistics, there were 3.4 billion travelers during the Spring Festival travel season in 2014, among which 3.1 billion people traveled by road, 225,000,000 by train, 43,000,000 by water and 35,500,000 by sea. The official China railway services booking site set a new record with 300,000 tickets being sold out in one hour.
Managing city traffic with information technology is the key to solving traffic problems. By launching the support system for transport during major holidays, Beijing integrated information about buses, subways, taxis and cars. After analyzing the information, appropriate arrangements were made, which played an important role during the Spring Festival travel season and other big events. Every day, data collected from all of Beijing’s roads and subways (including a large number of pictures, vehicle data and video data) is transmitted in real time and stored quickly for the long term in Inspur’s storage system. The next day, data from the previous day is transmitted quickly to the relevant departments in the city government, thereby helping the capital’s traffic controls to have something to refer to and allowing people to leave the house without fearing traffic congestion.
During the 9th Beijing International Garden Expo, “The Traffic Monitoring System for the 9th China (Beijing) International Garden Expo” was launched. This was the early result of the National Science and Technology Major Project on Core Electronic Devices, High-end Generic Chips and Basic Software in 2013 (particularly “The Research and Demonstration Project on the Application of Real-Time Services Based on Safe, Reliable, and Basic Software and Hardware – The Research and Demonstration of the Application of the Integrated Transport Emergency Response and Security System in Metropolises”). The new initiative successfully supported the Expo’s traffic control and security work.
Within 6 months, 12,000,000 Chinese and foreign travelers visited the Expo. The Inspur storage system conducted real-time monitoring, storing, and counting of 8 major types of traffic data. The relevant data included: inbound and outbound traffic coming to/from the Expo garden and the subway stations (including Garden Expo Park), cars entering and leaving the parking lots, taxis in the neighborhood and their condition, statistics on tour buses and tourists, statistics on buses running on special bus lines, shuttle buses and general buses, weather data and data related to water on the bridge area, and data collected from neighboring roads and their conditions. All data sources provided timely, precise statistics and formed a basis on which to control traffic, direct tourists, control shuttle buses and special bus lines, manage parking lots, etc.
The project’s customer was very satisfied with the performance of Inspur’s integrated solution. He said that during big events (such as the Spring Festival travel season, National Day and the two sessions), the Inspur storage system ensured the smooth running of the transport support system during major holidays. He found that it provided strong support to the processes of analyzing, planning and securing Beijing’s transportation. In 2014, APEC will be held in Beijing, and its transport support system will also be backed up by Inspur’s storage system, showing the trust that is now placed on the system’s reliability.
