Distributed Energy Management for State Grid of Shandong Province in China

Overview

For our state grid customer, we developed a Distributed Energy Storage System(DESS) and the Cooperation Management Platform(CMP) based on KaiwuDB and KDP. KaiwuDB is deployed on State Grid innovation platform, edge server and industrial personal computer(IPC). Our structure and technology helps them achieve cloud-edge-terminal synchronization. We also offer services including real-time monitoring of the distribution transformer line operation, load-shifting, reactive power support and three-phase unbalance management.

Background Information

The first high photovoltaic penetration rate demonstration project in Shandong province, China has abundant lighting resources due to its geographical location. More than 80% of the households in the area have installed photovoltaic panels on their roofs. In 2022 alone, the total amount of photovoltaic power generation reached one million kilowatt-hours. A large number of distributed photovoltaics are connected to the grid, which not only outputs clean electricity, but also brings problems such as overvoltage for low-voltage users and overload of distribution transformers, affecting the safe and stable operation of the power grid and restricting the further growth of photovoltaic capacity in the area.

Demand and challenge

1. Lack of an effective database solution:

To achieve the aggregated regulation of distributed energy storage, fully supporting distributed energy storage solutions with a scale of no less than 50 cross-regional multi-point layouts, and uniformly managing data such as energy consumption, energy storage equipment, and battery module status.

2. Lack of collection of large amounts of time series data:

To realize the real-time collection and aggregation of time-series data from 5 million measuring points of hundreds of domestic industrial computers RK3568, which owns 50,000 measuring points each;

3. Lack of a unified visual monitoring platform:

To meet the needs of a multi-dimensional data dashboard, achieving transparent management and reducing labor costs.

Customer Benefits

1. Now the DESS can write up to 10 million time-series data records per second and respond to data queries in milliseconds, which reduced the time delay in energy storage scenarios, improved the comprehensive regulation ability of energy storage cabinets, while lifted energy efficiency by more than 85% and realized a charging-discharging conversion within 100ms.

2. Achieved 100% absorption of substation distributed photovoltaics and 100% standard voltage quality, while improved power supply reliability to 99.999%.

3. The DESS and CMP will play a key supporting role in ensuring important users power supply and seasonal electricity demand, which achieved a power scalability by more than 30%, and suspended the distribution network construction investment.

4. This project provides a typical path for efficient and flexible consumption of high-permeability distributed photovoltaics in China, creates a demonstration model for the utilization of new energy in urban and rural areas and the co-construction of village networks, and provides successful construction experience for subsequent substation constructions.
